Wisdom teeth removal Gold Coast

The team at Be Dental is highly experienced in completing the wisdom teeth removal procedure. Whether you choose to undergo wisdom teeth removal treatment with local anesthesia or light oral sedation, our Gold Coast dentists will explain the whole process to you before it begins. If you’re concerned about your wisdom teeth causing you pain or discomfort, book an appointment with Be Dental to discuss your treatment options.

When might wisdom teeth removal be suggested?

We may suggest wisdom teeth removal if they’re causing you discomfort, tooth crowding,  interfering with nearby teeth, or if gum erosion is occurring. If your wisdom teeth become impacted, they could cause issues such as formation of cysts, tooth decay, infected gums, or a weakened jaw. Wisdom teeth can be tricky to clean well, so you may also choose to have them removed for easier dental care. Our team will assess your wisdom teeth and give you treatment options for your specific situation.

What happens during a wisdom teeth removal procedure?

Dental work can feel overwhelming when you’re unsure of exactly what will be happening. Wisdom teeth removal is a straightforward and common procedure, and our empathetic Gold Coast dentists will take the time to explain the treatment to you before it begins.

One

Initial consultation

Our team will meet with you to assess your wisdom teeth and explain treatment options and risks. This session may include X-rays or CBCT scans. At this point, please ask our dentists any questions you may have regarding the procedure. If you’re happy to go ahead, you can schedule your wisdom teeth removal appointment.

Two

Sedation/numbing

During your wisdom teeth removal appointment, we’ll answer any further questions you have. You will then either be given light oral sedation or local anaesthetic. If you would instead prefer general anaesthetic for your wisdom teeth removal procedure, we can refer you to a specialist at a hospital setting.

Three

Tooth removal

Once numbed, the removal of the tooth begins. This may involve lifting back a portion of the gum to extract the tooth, or using movement to loosen the tooth. A tooth drill may be used to cut the tooth into smaller pieces for easier removal. After the tooth is removed, the site is cleaned and you may be given stitches to help keep the area together as it heals.

Four

Healing & aftercare

Over the coming weeks, the gum hole will fill. During your wisdom tooth removal recovery stage, you’ll need to follow post-operative care which may include adhering to oral hygiene and diet instructions, resting, and taking prescription pain medication and antibiotics. If you’ve received sutures for your treatment, you’ll need to come back around 1 week later for their removal.

Why choose Be Dental for your wisdom teeth removal procedure?

Be Dental is an experienced Gold Coast dental surgery, conveniently located within Arundel Plaza. While all of our clinicians handle wisdom teeth removal, more complex cases are treated by renowned wisdom teeth specialist, Dr Stefan Vidimce.

In your initial wisdom tooth removal consultation, we’ll walk you through each step of the procedure and make sure you understand what it will entail. Most wisdom teeth removals can be safely performed in our clinic, saving you an expensive trip to the hospital for oral surgery. We’ll also explain aftercare for the treatment and detail prescription pain relief and antibiotics.

In chair at Be Dental, you can choose between light oral sedation and local anaesthetic for your wisdom tooth removal. There’s also the option of referral to hospital for particularly complex cases or those who wish to have the procedure completed under general anaesthetic.

What are the benefits of wisdom teeth removal?

There are several benefits to wisdom teeth removal for those who are experiencing (or may in future experience) issues with their teeth.

Pain prevention

If you’re experiencing pain from your wisdom teeth, their removal can remedy this discomfort. Pain could be caused from infection, impaction, inflamed gums, or pressure on the nearby molars.

Gum disease prevention

Some people may experience gum disease surrounding their wisdom teeth. If this occurs, oral infections and discomfort may follow. This can also lead to gum recession or bone loss. Removing wisdom teeth may prevent this.

Tooth damage prevention

Impacted wisdom teeth can cause damage to surrounding teeth. When these teeth don’t have enough space in the mouth, but try to cut through the gum, they can push on other teeth and cause bigger problems.

More convenient cleaning

Wisdom teeth are set far back in the mouth, which can make them difficult to clean. This can lead to decay and gum disease. Removing wisdom teeth may improve oral health and make oral hygiene simpler.
